This roundup of things we liked this week originally appeared in the July 18, 2024, edition of theSecret Strategistnewsletter, a weekly email where we share the stuff our staff — plus a rotating cast of writers, design-world people, and various others with very good taste — would otherwise keep to themselves. Last week, Elise Joseph postedthis sexy, silky striped ’80s(?) couchshe found on Facebook Marketplace in L.A. (“the perfect sofa doesn’t exi—” she wrote.) Seems that one isstill available, for $1,300. Since we spotted this, we’ve seen an identical one pop up in Boston, and a lovechair version in Ohio, but they both sold quickly — if we see more, we’ll put them in future editions. And if you know who designed this thing, please let us know; we’re very curious. —Katy Schneider and Simone Kitchens

* Our friend Bobby Doherty just posted these great-looking striped swim trunks, and we had to know more. “I wanted swim shorts this length and knew they could only be sourced from one place, a place I’ve somehow managed to never buy anything from before: H&M,” he told us. “My thought process was that I’ve never seenLove Island, but I feel like the kind of shorts I want would ultimately be worn by a contestant onLove Island, and I feel like H&M makesLove Island–contestant clothing, and I was 100 percent correct! It had two striped pairs and everything else was like dayglow palm tree.” These are theshorts.
