It looks similar and makes a comparably impressive cup of coffee at a lower price, but I still prefer the original for its iconic design — especially ifyou can get it on sale. However, despite its familiar appearance, the newPlastic-Free Breweris a whole different machine. It is the only coffee-maker with a 100 percent plastic-free brewing path, from the glass water tank through the stainless-steel internals to the glass carafe. Considering the$800 Ratiostill uses a plastic cold-water reservoir, its $480 asking price is reasonable for people trying toreduce plastic exposurein their morning routine. But it’s an even better value at just $400 during this Prime Day sale.

The SimplyGoodCoffee Plastic-Free Brewer lacks the Moccamaster’s lovely array of color options and European flair, but it actually makes a better pot of coffee. Unlike the Moccamaster, this machine has an automatic bloom setting (with a dedicated switch) and a wider, circular showerhead — both of which promote even extraction. The stainless-steel internal pipes and brewing basket cool the water slightly more than theMoccamaster’s plastic parts, which can lead to slightly underextracted lighter roasts. But this can be mitigated by running the machine without coffee prior to brewing. Overall, if you like the Moccamaster’s design but wish it used less plastic, I’d recommend taking advantage of this $80 discount while you can.
