Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ‘em) products and single out the most convincing. Here, because winter is coming, we’ve chosen the best wrapping papers on Amazon — we’ve also picked out our favorite Christmas tree toppers and Christmas lights — according to the people. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.) Don’t miss all of the Strategist’s holiday gift coverage right here, too.
Best Matte Wrapping Paper
“Just received this gift wrap and I really like it. It is a heavy-enough paper and it wraps well. I like to tie my own bows, and the satin silver is a great backdrop for the various ribbons and doodads that I like to put together. It is pretty enough to do a silver-on-silver combination. But add a little color to the bow and the present really stands out. I will buy this again and try some of their other papers also.”

Best Hanukkah Wrapping Paper
Best Shiny Christmas Paper
“It is thick, high-quality paper that does not rip easily. Two of the rolls have a metallic sheen (the striped one and the one next to it), and the other two have a matte finish. There are squares on the back so that you can cut in a straight line without having to draw one. I was really impressed with the amount of wrapping, too, for some reason I thought it was going to be 180 square feet total, but I’m pretty sure it is 180 square feet per roll.”
Best Animal-Themed Wrapping Paper
“For me, gift-wrapping is almost a hobby. I can’t remember ever receiving as much positive feedback as I did about last year’s Christmas packages, which were all wrapped in ‘Wild Christmas’ with a variety of red, green, or gold ribbons. Caspari papers are always luxurious and an absolute pleasure with which to work. I use an Olo knife to cut wrapping paper, but it balks if the paper isn’t heavy enough. My little rolling knife just loved this paper. I used the coordinating tissue paper inside gift boxes, which also made a hit. It may be a long time before I find another paper as lovely as this one. I use leftover papers for stocking gifts because ‘Santa has all the papers in the world,’ and it’s been fun to wrap a few items this year in my all-time favorite Christmas gift wrap.”
Best Kids’ Wrapping Paper
Best Ecofriendly Wrapping Paper
“I wanted a giant roll of brown paper for wrapping gifts and general use around the house, and this Kraft Paper Roll is perfect. It’s just thick enough that it doesn’t tear easily when I use it as wrapping paper, but it’s not too thick that it is hard to crease and handle.”
Best Video-Game-Themed Wrapping Paper
“A must for any Minecraft fan! My son was thrilled to find some of his Christmas presents wrapped in Minecraft paper! And this mom was pleased with the uniqueness of the paper and the high quality. It was thick, and therefore did not tear easily. The sheets were very large, and I was able to wrap numerous gifts with it.”
Best Dinosaur Wrapping Paper
“Love this paper. My son is obsessed with Jurassic everything, and this paper was different than anything we had found anywhere else. Good quality and unique. When I wrapped his gift in this for his fifth birthday party, it was the first one he went for! Thanks!”
Best Tissue Wrapping Paper
“This is such a great assortment of tissue paper, and I love the color selection and the neat way it all comes folded together for easy storage in a resealable plastic container. The size and thickness of these papers is just perfect for wrapping gifts, and there are so many sheets included — it’s great!”
Best Reindeer-Themed Wrapping Paper
“Stunning graphics. A heavy-quality paper used for just a few special presents. I used red-striped, wired ribbon with it and got RAVE reviews. A black-marble fireplace with a white mantel, the green Christmas tree with 700 lights and only a star on top in the corner next to it, and those few presents wrapped in this paper with the red bows under it. Twas SO very adult … and a real KNOCKOUT!”
