Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ’em) products and single out the most worthwhile.
While we’ve covered everything from at-home bartending goods and dorm-room necessities to baby-shower offerings and Father’s Day gifts, we have yet to cover one appliance that wouldn’t be out of place in any of these scenarios. Here, we do a deep dive into the best mini-fridges available on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)
Best mini-fridge for under $50
“So I’d love to say that I purchased this to keep my beers cold at work, but really I was a desperate new mom in need of breast-milk storage. This little fridge was a miracle worker! If you, like me, either keep forgetting to freeze your ice pack, have issues remembering to take your milk home at the end of the day, or feel suuuper strange about leaving bodily fluids in a communal fridge, this little workhorse is the best! It keeps milk very cold all day long. And if you have a slight lapse in memory and forget to take your milk home at the end of the day, no prob! It will be there tomorrow.”
Best mini-fridge for under $100
“We bought this fridge as an emergency replacement when our full-size fridge kicked the bucket at a very inconvenient time. We weren’t expecting much, we just desperately needed something to keep food cold. We have a full-size stand-up freezer, so the size of the freezer in this unit was not a factor. The fridge arrived in perfect condition, is super quiet, and keeps food cold. I love the smaller space because it means vegetables don’t get lost in the bottom of the fridge, making it much easier to remember that they need to be used. The freezer is big enough to hold maybe three ice trays or two frozen pizzas. We found this fridge to be so useful that we bought another one for our mini-kitchen in our basement, and plan on buying a third for our main kitchen to have the capacity that we used to have in our old fridge.”
Best mini-fridge with a freezer door
“I love the fact that the freezer and refrigerator parts are separate. The freezer is a pretty good size. I can fit a few frozen dinners to last me two weeks. I use it at the office. I can also fit quite a few things in the refrigerator. Product might seem a little pricey, but it’s worth it in the long run. I quit driving to the fast-food joint every day to buy lunch. I bought enough food for a week or two (cheaper than buying at fast-food places every day), fixed it or warmed it at the office, and had a lot more time to enjoy my lunch versus having to run like a chicken with its head cut off trying to beat the traffic and crazy customers at 12 every day.”
Best mini-fridge that’s just a fridge
“This bad boy is a MASSIVE compact refrigerator, but it’s just as light as the smaller ones. This thing gets cold immediately. Bright-light interior with these awesome and superconvenient soda can/bottle holders on the door. Clear trays, so nothing gets lost or forgotten about, and the bottom tray can be moved to the top of the refrigerator to fit a bigger item! Perfect for dorm rooms, the kiddos will be able to fit tons of stuff, and excellent for the office. Can you imagine how you can load this thing with your week’s prepped meals and just grab and go from your desk? Don’t get a smaller unit, you want this one! Worth it. The rest don’t compare.”
Best personal mini-fridge
“Impressed and pleased so far. This little monster has kept a can of refrigerated Diet Coke at the same temp as a can of Diet Coke from my big fridge, the same temp for 36 hours and counting. Impressive! I need it to keep my pet’s and my meds refrigerated over the holiday weeks while traveling. No wobble. Stable footing, does not skid on the counter. So far seems sturdy and even has metal hinges on the door and a ‘no nail breakage’ slot to carry it around! Cool (literally!).”
Best mini-fridge with cigarette-lighter plug
“Thus far, totally awesome!! At best, I thought I would get chilled beverages. NOT SO! My beverages actually had pieces of ice floating inside; one of them actually completely froze!!!! I am now very confident that I will be able to store food in this mini-fridge without fear of giving myself food poisoning!!! Again, so far well beyond my expectations: nice size, nicely designed, easy to clean — all pros, no cons that I can see.”
Best mini-fridge for beverages
“So happy and just thrilled that we went with the Kalamera beverage cooler. Did my homework for a good month on many different types of beverage coolers. This one had everything that I was looking for. Holds every bit of 96 cans, adjustable shelving, keeps beverages very cool, quiet as can be, extremely attractive, love the glass and the stainless-steel look with handle and loving the blue light!”
Best wine refrigerator
“I couldn’t be happier. The overall look is sleek enough (without being gaudy or glitzy), and the operation is quiet enough that it can be placed in any room without being a distraction. The smoked-glass front is a nice touch as compared to some of the other units with a clear-glass front. Setup is easy and straightforward, and the temperatures are holding steady. In simple terms, it does exactly what it’s supposed to. Refreshing!”
“Very nice-looking little fridge … very quiet. Have it next to my bed for easy access to bottled water, protein shakes, juices, and a few late-night snacks. Good temperature separation between the freezer and refrigerator compartments. Keeps food items very cold … and again, this fridge is exceptionally quiet! Very happy with my purchase. If they made a full-size refrigerator or freezer (maybe they do … I don’t know), I would buy it in a heartbeat!”
