It’s high summer, and all I want is to be in a pool. The only problem is I don’t like any of my bathing suits. I won’t do a bikini, tankini, or monokini. I thought I might find another one-piece while reporting out ourswimsuit guide.Dimepiece’sBrynn Wallneralmost sold me onCoração Bobowith its trademarked Tan-Through fabrication (“apparently scientifically engineered to allow for tanning through the suit”). As did antiques dealerErica Weiner, who likes thisBeklina“enough to put swimsuit pics out to the whole damn world.” But I realized what Ireallywant is a swimdress. I have this fantasy of swimming in one like aBathing BeautyEsther Williams. Unfortunately, a lot look like your great-great grandmother’s undergarments. Except for thisNorma Kamali— I shouldn’t have expected anything less from thequeen of body-con.

Nike Aqua Turf
In anticipation of going to water parks and weekends at the beach, I went for a pair of Nike Aqua Turfs. So far, I’ve been wearing thesewater shoes on dry landmostly (or sometimes when it’s raining, in lieu ofrain boots).

Khaite Devra Top
I’m trying to buyT-shirtsthat don’t look like every other T-shirt. I’m not in the tax bracket of the regular Khaite customer, but I checked out on the Devra after thinking about it for over a week. I like that it has ahighV-neck rather than a typical V-neck. It’s cheapest at Ssense and Elyse Walker (butBergdorf Goodmanhas one extra-large left for $152).

Next time I’m in Paris, I’m stopping by Bourgine (its storefront is next to theOdéon). It interpreted “French regional costume in the early 19th century” for the new season. There’sGuyenne’s cheesemakerorLorraine’s fishmonger. I might be looking like thePicardy shrimp-sellersoon enough.

It seems like every designer, fromTory BurchtoMarc Jacobs, is pinning flowers to their shirts. I might’ve thought it was anAnd Just Like That …marketing strategy. There are petals sewn to the back of Indress’ ostrich-feathers pin (which I first noticed onEarl Earl’sLaurel Pantin). It’s made in one of the only feather workshops left in France.

Better than a Birkin is a Firkin, and this is the Firkin I’d get. Of course, it’s sold atZitomer, the Upper East Side pharmacy that carries everything fromLouis XV’s toothpastetoMason Pearson hairbrushes. It’s about the size of a largeL.L.Bean Boat and Tote.

It’s like something fromJayne Mansfield’s Pink Palace(why yes, I watchedMy Mom Jayne). If I could, I would have it sitting inside a powder room.

I can’t think of a better place to put down my worst impulses than in “the Mary Shelley of stationery.”
