There’s Suddenly So Much Pink Outdoor Gear

Over the past few months, I’ve enjoyed following the journey of 22-year-old Pacific Crest Trail hiker and niche social-media starKamryn Renae, who is completing the expedition with almost entirely pink gear, from her wardrobe and backpack to hersleeping mat. (Her trail name is Flamingo, according to aninterviewwithOutsidemagazine.)
Renae caught my attention because her dedication to looking cute on a tough long-distance hiking trail (she even paints hernails) is both slightly unusual and right on trend. Most outdoor brands have expanded their offerings to include clothing and gear in shades of magenta, coral, and baby pink in recent years, making it possible to take a very Barbie-inspiredcamping trip, should that be your kind of thing. And whereas manufacturing pink outdoor products was once a quick and cheap way for brands to sell men’s designs to women without any other modifications — “shrink it and pink it” is common shorthand for gender bias in product design — these days, you can buy some really high-quality outdoor gear that’s not only pink but also tailored to fit smaller bodies.
Whatever your gender, the girlie-pop gorp trend also provides a nice break from REI’s muddy 1970s color palette and Snow Peak’s monochromatic minimalism. Here’s all the best pink outdoor clothing and gear I could find.
