Uniqlo’s collaboration with Cecilie Bahnsen is officially live, and it might be their biggest one of the year. It has all the Danish brand’s trademarks: voluminous silhouettes, trimmings of shirring and ruffles. I haven’t been tickled this pink sinceSandy Liang for GaporSimone Rocha for H&M. Prices area lotcheaper thanBahnsen for North Face— they start at $29.90 — plus, there are kids-size versions of a few of the pieces, like thisfrilled T-shirtthat’s $19.99. If you’re wondering what to get, I tried out a few pieces ahead of the launch (I’m about five-two and a size medium, for reference). I’m guessing things will go quickly, so shop accordingly.
Here’s everything Uniqlo x Cecilie Bahnsen I tried …

Typically, nothing this fitted inspires confidence in yours truly. But not only does the shirring and ruffling hug me in all the right places, it’s more comfortable than the word “fitted” in the product copy implies. Very thoughtfully, the back of the straps (which I only wish were wider for lessbravisibility) have buttons to keep them on your shoulder. It’s made of 72 percent polyester, 27 percent cotton, and 1 percent spandex, so it might not be the best for an 89-degree day. That said, it’s quite light for that kind of fabric composition — and a gentle breeze would only help. Beyond this black-and-white gingham print, it’s available in solidblackandred.

I didn’t have such luck with the Sleeveless Shirring Top. It’s too short and too tight. Blah! Bad. I’m not entirely sure trying the next size up would have made it better. It’s a tiny little top for a person who doesn’t like tiny little tops. So do with that information what you will.

Wearing the Shirring Volume Sleeve T-shirt and Shirring Skirt together gets me to being as near to a Cecilie Bahnsen model as I’ll ever be. All I need is a pair ofCecilie Bahnsen Asicsnow. Compared to the Sleeveless Shirring Top, which I tried in a medium, the Shirring Volume Sleeve T-shirt in a large fit much better. I could actually take a breath in it. If I lift up my arms, there still might be a little belly button. The sleeve proportions are just right — they’re lessAnne Shirleyand moreJudy Garland’s Dorothy inThe Wizard of Oz. Moving on to the Shirring Skirt: Quite a twirlable skirt it is. I don’t know if the top ruffle on the skirt does any favors for my hip dips. But it’s no small miracle what the shirring is doing to my midsection.

This is the Cecilie Bahnsen experience. It’s not for everyone. Sometimes you don’t want your body to be perceived, and this helps admirably. I’m a sentient jellyfish! Looking closer, one can see there’s corporeal form under here. I can’t imagine anything better to wear after having birthday party-slices of Boston cream pie (as I had recently). If anything, I might’ve sized down to a small. I’m not willing to give up the freedom of movement though — and it comes with pockets.

I don’t mind being adorable at the tender age of 30, and this is the adult equivalent of having on fairy’s wings. Better yet, it’s 100 percent pure, unadulterated cotton (as is its sister, the Frill T Dress). Again, it’s a whole lot of volume. I know it’s not for everyone. No matter your leanings, I’d recommend sizing down in this. It’s bordering on swallowing instead of billowing in my usual size medium.
