One of the most practical ways to achieve orange light in your home is to switch out your bulbs. Philips Hue is the gold standard for this. Quinlan says about half of the people she spoke to for her piece own these. The brand’s color-changing smart bulbs are incredibly versatile and customized to emit the exact shade of light you’re looking for.

For a less expensive option, there are also theseWiZ bulbs, which senior writer Michael Zhao named the best smart lightbulb overall. “It has all the color tunability and lighting performance of the higher-end Hue line at a fraction of the cost per bulb,” he writes. The brand is owned by the same company that makes Philips Hue bulbs, and its products are available in a wide range of colors and sizes.

And for a very cheap option, a colored party bulb will do the trick. Quinlan bought one at Justbulbs, a lightbulb store in midtown, for around four bucks. “It’s a very dark reddish orange, but quite a budget buy,” she says. Justbulbs doesn’t have an online store, but you can find the bulb at a few places online.

Another way to achieve this ambience is with an orange-toned light. Quinlan’s neighbor owns one from Lucy’s Lamps. The brand has a collection of retro-looking orange glass lamps. Many are sold out, which speaks to the proliferation of orange glass, but this one, which reminds me of the popular donut-shaped Ikea light, is in stock and on sale.
