If you bake all the time, astand mixeris great to have. But if you bake casually (or even rarely), ahand mixerwill get you very — and I meanvery— far. Right now, KitchenAid’s is on sale for a deeper discount than we usually see: 36 percent off in white, red, and ice blue. (The other colors are marked down 25 percent — still a very good deal.) The brand reigns supreme when it comes to the full-size appliance, so it only stands to reason that their handheld version is the best, too.

This thing is powerful and durable. I’ve had mine for more than a decade, since I moved into my first off-campus college house, and I still pull it out at least once a month. There are five speeds, so you have great control, and it makes quick work of cookies, cakes, whipped cream, and more. It’s a great tool to have in your baking arsenal, and for less than $40, it’s a no-brainer.
