Petit Bateau is known for its cotton baby clothes, but it also makes nice basics for women. The French brand was founded over 100 years ago as a childrenswear company, but it wasn’t until the ’90s — when Karl Lagerfeld put Claudia Schiffer in a Petit Bateau kids’ T-shirt (a literal baby tee) and sent her down the Chanel runway — that it started a line for adults. Stylish women like Carolyn Bessette KennedyworePetit Bateau tops, and more recently,Lily-Rose Deppand Chloe Sevigny have, too.
In an interview backstage at the Miu Miu fall 2026 show in Paris last week,Sevigny toldDazedthat she went to Petit Bateau to buy cotton undies “because they don’t really have Petit Bateau in America.” Intrigued by the endorsement, I looked up the underwear on its U.S. site. I also noticed that it was available on Amazon, which actually carries a lot of the brand’s baby stuff. It would have been easy enough to order from the Petit Bateau website (free shipping for orders over $200), but if I could get them on Amazon, even better.
The seller is a third party, so it wasn’t being shipped via Amazon Prime, but standard shipping was free and would take a week. For research purposes, I ordered a three-pack of white cotton underwear, a navy long-sleeve shirt, and a black tank. The Amazon prices were more or less comparable to the prices on the Petit Bateau site, Amazon being the same or higher by a few bucks. I placed the order on a Thursday and it arrived on Saturday, much faster than the projected delivery window.

The long-sleeve shirt was nice, but I found the cotton to be thinner than some of theother long-sleeves I’ve tried recently. I usually wear a size small and sized down to extra-small for this top and still would have preferred a snugger fit. The crewneck was slightly more boat-y than the other close-fitting crews I tried, but I actually didn’t mind that look. It’s a good shirt for spring and summer, as it is quite lightweight. The tank top was similarly lightweight and had a classic, flattering shape to it.

But the underwear is pretty fantastic. The white cotton set comes in three different styles — plain, ribbed, and pointelle — and the classic bikini cut fits supremely well. They are true to size (I’m a small in underwear) and have just the right amount of coverage. They are not granny undies, nor are they skimpy (if you must know, there is a tiny coquettish bow on the front). The seams aren’t bulky (which I found to be the case withthese Jockeys) and didn’t give me VPL when worn with jeans. Of the three weaves, I like the plain the best, but they’re all very comfortable. Petit Bateau also makes them inblack,multicolor, andpatterned setsof three or five.
My everyday underwear is from Old Navy, which admittedly isn’t an exciting choice, as reliable and inexpensive as they are. I wouldn’t be opposed to replacing them with these French ones, especially since I wouldn’t have to travel to Paris to get some.
