While perusing deals for my roundup of thebest Memorial Day furniture sales, I came across this slipcovered chair-and-a-half from West Elm for under $400. Originally priced at $1,799, the chair is part of the Harmony collection, which includes one of ourfavorite couches, and is an incredible deal that deserves its own post. Boxy and pillowy, it has that great oversize look we love from thebest slipcovered sofas of the ’90s. (Speaking from my own experience hunting for the perfect slipcovered accent chair, it is very difficult to find a chair for under $2,000 — let alone $500.)

At 56 inches wide, it’s a good size for slotting into a funky corner of a city apartment and can even stand in for a love seat or larger sofa. Plus, you can remove the slipcover for easy cleaning and maintenance. You can have it upholstered in just about any fabric and color you can think of, making it highly customizable, and that’s where the deal comes in. Several fabric options are on sale, and the cheapest ring in at $399. You can choose from either a pearl-gray performance velvet or camel twill for $399. Slightly more expensive is the black chunky chenille for $439, the midnight performance basket slub for $479, and the pewter deluxe linen for $559. I don’t see anything on sale in white, but that hardly matters. Delivery will take about six to eight weeks, but for a classic, goes-with-everything chair that’s under $600, it’s definitely worth the wait.
