Prime Day Is in 3 Weeks. Here’s Everything You Need to Know.

Amazon hasofficially announcedthe dates for this year’sPrime Day, and for the first time ever, it’s in June: Tuesday, June 23, to Friday, June 26. (Up until now, it has always been held in July.) Like last year, it’s four days long, compared with the usual two, so there’s double the time to shop. We’ll be covering all the best deals with our trademark obsessiveness. But to help you get ready, here’s a refresher on whatPrime Dayis, what goes on sale, and how to find all the best deals. And because the sale is only three weeks away, early deals are already live and we’re helping you find the best ones to shopnow.

This year’s Prime Day begins on Tuesday, June 23, at 3 a.m. ET and runs through Saturday, June 27, at 2:59 a.m. ET.

OnlyPrime memberscan shop the deals, so if you’re not a member yet, the sale is a good incentive tosign up(it’s $15 per month or $139 per year). If you don’t want to commit to a full month or year, you can sign up for a freeseven-day trialright before the sale starts. In addition to Prime Day discounts, membership gives you free two-day shipping on a slew of things, no matter the time of year, plus access to Amazon-only shows and movies and select sporting events.

Thousands of items in every product category, many of which we’ve recommended time and time again, will be discounted — usually for their best price all year. To get a sense of the breadth of deals, I recommend looking at ourhuge hub of deals from last year’s sale. You’ll see deals on men’s and women’s fashion, kids’ toys, all manner of beauty products, kitchen essentials, tech, and much more.

Not everything. Amazon says the biggest new deals drops will be at 3 a.m., 11 a.m., and 4 p.m. EST each day, with five or more deals (many up to half off) on exclusive or trending products, and they’re only available while supplies last.

Last year, those new daily drops were some of the best deals — and they were fleeting. We saw a half-offMoccamastercome and go in the span of just a few hours, aTevas sandalsdiscount that lasted only one day, and aLeset T-shirtdeal that sold out halfway through the sale. All were good — and rare — discounts that we haven’t seen in Prime Days past, so it’s not surprising they sold out quickly. I expect we’ll see a new batch of good but short-lived deals each day of the sale this year, so I suggest checking our site each morning if you want to hear about the best of them.

However, the vast majority of deals do last the full four days, especially those onbeauty itemslike skin care and hair care and all manner ofhousehold essentials. If it’s a boring thing on sale, you can probably grab it any of the four days.

For the most part, yes. Last year,we did see some deals get just a tad bettertoward the end of the sale, but usually only by a few dollars. It was more common for a sale to just end or sell out than it was to get better. If you’re willing to take your chances, you could wait until the last day or two of the sale to shop to see if you can save a few extra bucks; if it’s a daily essential likesunscreenorprotein powder, odds are good it will stay in stock until the end of the sale. But the bigger and rarer the discount, the more likely it is the sale will end or run out, so play your cards wisely.

Like a lot of things “on sale” on Amazon, it depends. Many of the deals are fairly standard — 20 to 30 percent off — and not exclusive to Prime Day, but that doesn’t make them not worth it, especially if it’s an everyday item you need to restock. Some have inflated listing prices to make the deals seem better than they are, so it’salwaysworth Googling the item to make sure it’s actually a deal — or just follow our coverage, as we’ll be doing that for you.

But a lot of the deals actuallyaregood, and plenty of items hit prices we never see outside of Prime Day, and we’ll be sharing all of those with you.
