Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed products and single out the most convincing ones. (You can learn more about our rating system and how we pick each item here.)

And while we’ve written about lots of cooking gadgets — including the best ice-cream machines and the best snow-cone machines— here, we’ve rounded up the best tortilla presses, as praised by the most enthusiastic reviewers on Amazon.

Best-rated tortilla press

Victoria 8 Inch Cast Iron Tortilla press
$24

One of the more than 1,300 reviewers that give this tortilla press five stars says they love this tortilla press because, “Tacos make the world go round, yo.” While many note that it can take a little trial and error to make the perfect tortilla, this press makes the process fairly simple, and it’s easy to use. “It only took a light touch to press out the dough,” one reviewer explains, and many notes that going easy on the press is key. Even though the handle is “very sturdy and heavy due to the cast iron material,” one reviewer warns, “Do not press down hard on the handle as it is not necessary to do so to produce excellent results.” There’s lots of reviewers who also mention that this press can be used for making other flatbreads. It “makes really good roti” according to one reviewer, and another says it’s “perfect for making Indian flat bread bhakri” or really “any dough which is prepared by mixing flour with hot water.”

Best-rated (less expensive) tortilla press

$19

Cast-iron might be the industry standard for tortilla presses, but reviewers are just as impressed with this aluminum option. Simply put by one reviewer, “This tortilla press creates perfect, 6-inch tortillas.” They continue, “It’s very well built, and I haven’t had any issues with it falling apart.” More than a quarter of reviewers also describe this aluminum tortilla press as easy, to use and to clean. “Lighter than cast iron, but presses easily and completely without any difficulty,” one writes. “ It feels study and durable, and I have not had any problems with dough sticking or cleanup.” Others agree that this is durable, with a few noting that this holds up to use and abuse. “We made over 200 tamales with this bad boy,” one reviewer writes, while another notes, “I even dropped it once by accident, from about 3.5 feet from my kitchen counter to the ground, and it sustained no damage and works great.”

And now for some micro-picks of every type of tortilla press you might be looking for.

Best flour tortilla press

More than 15 percent of reviewers describe the cast-iron handle of this tortilla press as heavy. As one explains, “It’s easy to clean and easy to store and is heavy enough to make the perfect tortillas.” But the handle means this press is sturdy enough to handle tortillas made from flour and alternative flours, too. “With this tortilla press, I’m able to enjoy tacos, wraps, and chips made from cassava flour, coconut flour, and even flaxseeds,” one reviewer explains, while another who “used it to make low carb tortillas which uses a pretty stiff dough” even had success. Because it’s so heavy, one reviewer attests it just takes, “One smush and you have a lovely round tortilla.”

Best tortilla press with parchment paper

Uno Casa Cast Iron Tortilla Press
$30

This tortilla press “comes with a bunch (100-ish) of pieces of pre-cut parchment paper to get you on your way right out of the box,” writes one reviewer. And more than 10 percent of reviewers describe the included parchment paper is a nice touch. A handful also appreciate that the cast iron “comes pre-seasoned so you can use it immediately,” as one reviewer explains. But even with all of the extras, this tortilla press still works well. Nearly one-fifth of reviewers describe it as sturdy, and one even says ,“As far as sturdy I wish I could pick 6 stars.”
