What Our Senior Writer Wants for Her Birthday

Every month, we Strategist editors tell you about the best things we’ve recently bought for ourselves. But what about the things we wish other people would buy for us? It’s a ritual for us to share our holiday wish lists, but during the rest of the year we’re also having birthdays, housewarming parties, weddings, babies, and more. So now we’re spilling about the gifts we’d like for those milestones, as well. First up: senior writer Lauren Levy on the goods she wouldn’t mind receiving for her birthday.

I’ll start with the most practical thing I want and need: a pair of in-ear earphones. Long story short, I have TMJ and my over-ear headphones are giving me jaw issues, which is a problem because I dislike sticking little things in my ear, and I am not here for AirPods. Plus, I prefer my earpieces in black. The good thing is that I’ve wanted something from Bang & Olufsen for, like, as long as I can remember, so this is a great opportunity for me to ask for a pair of these BeoPlay in-ear earphones. I’m going with wireless because although I refuse to wear AirPods, I am hopeful about the world of Bluetooth ear gadgets. Spoiler alert: My dad agreed to buy these for me.

Here’s a weird one: I want some glass bricks to use as book ends. A friend recently tipped me off that I can get one at Home Depot, so after browsing their site, I think this curved one is maybe the most practical for the purpose.

But I’ve also been obsessed with colored glass lately, so I think I’d prefer the orangey-amber number instead.

I recently misplaced a pair of small gold hoop earrings, and I’m sad about it. Replacing them with these, which look pretty much the same, would be nice.

I honestly can’t believe I’ve been alive this long and still don’t own anything from Eckhaus Latta. I’d take anything at this point, but to get specific, I’ve had my eye on these Camper boots.

This cozy velour long sleeve tee will also do.

I’m really feeling colorful sandals for summer. When I showed my mom some Maryam Nassir Zadeh options she told me they looked “too typical,” but offered to gift me these from a brand called Neous instead. I’ll take it.

Oh, and this guy on Instagram is selling an old jailbroken Prada smartphone for $95. He says they still work, and I am strongly considering — maybe even as a gift to myself.
