Big news for anyone with aRhode lip case: Hailey Bieber’sjeanswith Gap are officially live today. The collaboration includes two pairs that are Bieber’s take on existing styles — Gap’s Low-Rise ’90s Loose Jeans and Extra-Baggy Jeans — updated with “different fit proportions,”according to the brand, plus things like a back patch featuring “1996” branding (her birth year and mine). It’s the latest inGap’s string of high-profile collaborators (Victoria Beckham,Sandy Liang,Doên, etc.) and I imagine the collaboration will go just as quickly as any other.

I tried out the jeans ahead of the launch (I am about five-two and wear a size 30 usually, for reference) and you know what? Not bad, Bieber. I’m especially impressed each jean is 100 percent cotton and (reasonably) comfortable if you get the sizing right. Here are my reviews of the jeans.

Remember last year’s KatseyeBetter in Denimcampaign set to Kelis’s “Milkshake”? These jeans make me feel that way. They have the miraculous proportions of vintage men’s Levi’s. Still, the jeans lift my butt like aWedgie, and arehigh-waistedlike a Ribcage (or the “Goldilocks of jeans”). They’re made from a 100 percent cotton that feels thicker than the other 100 percent cotton jeans from Gap I’ve tried. The material is more forgiving in the Extra-Baggy Jeans than the Low-Rise ’90s Loose Jeans — I took my regular size 30 in the Extra-Baggy and they fit nearly perfectly, whereas the Low-Rise ’90s Loose Jeans (below) ran small. They run long and have supermodel-proportioned legs, but I don’t think they look half-bad cuffed. I appreciate that it’s the straightest of straight legs — not tighter fitting in the hips or wide through the knees — which helps with the optical illusion of lengthening. I’d even be willing to get them hemmed, which is my ultimate test of deciding whether to keep a jean or not.

This isn’t my first time trying Low-Rise ’90s Loose Jeans: I ordered (and returned) them last year. On the advice of reviewers, I sized down to a 29 (instead of my regular 30). They onlyjustfit. I tried Hailey Bieber’s version of the Low-Rise ’90s Loose Jeans in a 30, and I couldn’t zip it up for the life of me. I understand that the jeans are made from a rigid denim that’s 100 percent cotton (as opposed to astretch denimthat’s something like 98 percent cotton to 2 percent elastane), but I can’t remember the last time I sighed in relief after getting out of a pair of jeans, as I did with the size 30 in this pair. I tried the 31 next.So this is how they’re supposed to fit.Consider sizing up. I like the wider leg in comparison to the vaguer, straighter leg on the original. While the jeans hugged me in the hips and thighs in the front, there was waist gapping in the back. I don’t think this is howHailey Bieberfeels in her jeans.
