What Jean Smart Can’t Live Without

I couldn’t get by without hot rollers, unfortunately. I was given these by the hairdresser onHacks. She suggested I use end papers because my hair’s really fine. I have the kind of hair that will curl really fast because it’s very lightweight. I could completely change my hair in less than 15 minutes from the time I plug it in. I also color my hair, so I have to be careful. But I don’t find that these get really, really hot. Some get so hot that it burns your scalp. I can’t imagine what it’s doing to your hair. These get just hot enough, but I don’t feel like they’re going to burn my hands or my scalp.

Using a curling iron, it’s too much struggle. But these are so easy. Also, they come with clips that are so easy to use. Every set of curlers I’ve used have these clips that don’t really hold, so they’re always slipping out of place. These have the perfect clips that’ll hold every single side of the curlers. So that to me was everything.

I live alone, so I do eat popcorn in bed. To me, this is hands down the best pre- popped packaged popcorn that you can get. The coconut oil they cook it in adds just a hint of coconut, but it’s not overpowering. They don’t add anything bad to it either. It’s so good and it’s always really crunchy. I just love it.

I recently discovered these because I’m diabetic. I’m always having to watch my sugar. These are so good. They have just enough dark chocolate on them, but they’re just as good as the ones that are really coated in a lot of chocolate. You get that amazing chocolate and crunchy almond combination for not a lot of carbs and not a lot of calories. I was like,Where have you been all my life?

I picked them up at CVS. I’m always looking for snacks without too much sugar and aspartame and all that other dreadful stuff. I just found out my favorite diet ginger beer is loaded with aspartame and I’m just thinking,Nooo.So it’s always nice when I find something that really feels like a treat, but doesn’t load up with sugar.

I absolutely love this foundation because the color is so gorgeous. It’s very lightweight, but it gives you full coverage if you want it. My makeup artist uses it onHacks.He gets compliments on my makeup all the time. After the SAG Awards, some magazine, I don’t remember which, put together a list of the top-ten makeup looks, which I was on. He was very pleased.

For a while, they were going to discontinue it, but now I think they’ve brought it back, thank God. It seems like every time you find a fabulous makeup product, they have to discontinue it. But I think it’s available now, and it’s a really gorgeous foundation.

I didn’t realize how comfortable linen sheets are, especially after you’ve used them for a while and they’ve been washed several times. They can be little delicate, so you’ve got to be careful. I got some for one of my sons, but he’s a real kicker when he sleeps and he ended up kicking a hole right through them. So he doesn’t get linen sheets anymore. But I just find them very luxurious, and it’s very nice to sleep in them in the nude. I’ve had mine for several years, at least seven or eight years.

My nail gal has been using OPI on me for a long time. My nails have to be a very neutral color on my show. I don’t ever get to do fun things with my nails. Well, when we shot some scenes in Las Vegas, I got some gold sparkles. But we shoot everything out of order — sometimes in one day we’ll be shooting scenes from two or three different episodes — so obviously we don’t have time to just keep changing my nail color all day long. So I had to just find a really pretty, natural color, and this one I get compliments on all the time. It’s called Bubble Bath, and it has the slightest hint of pink to it. It’s just really, really pretty. I love it.

It’s funny to me because I know a lot of girls in their 20s who think they invented wearing UGG boots with leggings. I’m thinking,That was our uniform in the ’80s!We all lived in our UGG boots. The tall ones are more flattering on me because I have skinny legs. I’m getting ready to throw them in my suitcase to take to Paris on Saturday. Although I don’t want to come across as an ugly American, so I’ve been Googling what Parisian women wear and don’t wear. Apparently, they tend to not wear athletic shoes, so I will not be bringing my athletic shoes. But I will be bringing my UGGs.

My youngest son, he’s in high school, has a thing on his phone where he ranks Shirley Temple drinks at restaurants all over the United States. He’s given this soda an absolute double thumbs-up, as well as my older son. So that was why they asked me to do this flavor, because my son loves it. It’s such a classic favorite flavor. I finally saw it in stores recently, and I bought almost all of them. I wanted Olipop to know that people were clamoring for Shirley Temple.

I was actually asked to promote a product recently that I just couldn’t in good conscience, so I had to say no thank you. Which my bookkeeper didn’t appreciate. But if I’m going to promote something, I have to feel proud of it. I feel really good about promoting Olipop because it’s really healthy, and I can’t say that about soft drinks for the most part. I mean, a low-sugar, high-fiber soda pop that tastes great? That was a no-brainer.
