What Ballerina Farm’s Hannah Neeleman Can’t Live Without

I discovered these Donni pants before I got pregnant with my daughter Greta. Then I got pregnant and wore them through the whole pregnancy and then postpartum. They were just amazing. So I’m like,Oh, I definitely need to have that on the list —I feel like every woman should have a pair of these pants. Now I have four pairs. I don’t wear them out of the house. They’re more for the morning time and then when I get back into the house in the evening. That’s when I’m throwing them on.

I haven’t been able to wear jeans for a while because I was pregnant, so I’m loving jeans right now. I love Rudy Jude. I think she’s so fascinating and brilliant. My 14-year-old son, actually, has just started stealing my Rudy Jude pants. That’s when I knew they were actually cool. I was like,If my 14-year-old son is wearing these, then I’m doing pretty good.They’re really fun. And they’re perfect for the farm, too. I feel like I can dress them up or down.

I’ve never been a perfume wearer, actually. They just give me headaches. Artificial scents I just don’t do well with. But I became fascinated with Ffern and the company. I think its marketing is just so beautiful and intentional. And I was like,Okay, I’m signing up for this.It’s a perfume that I can wear without getting a headache. I feel like I’m supporting a business that is just doing really cool things. Every season, they send you a new perfume. I obviously don’t go through all the perfumes. I just gave my sister one for her birthday. It’s a fun product.

I started using Weck jars when I started my sourdough journey. That’s where I kept my sourdough starter. And now we’ve just fallen in love with every shape and size of Weck jars. We have the really beautiful smaller ones — and I don’t use Tupperware, really — so I’m just putting everything in jars. For the sourdough starter, what I love about them is they have fewer rivets, so they’re just super easy to clean. With Mason jars, the traditional metal lids kind of get gross with all the washing and sourdough starter on them. And for the Weck ones, it’s just a glass thing that I can really scrub and get clean.

This stove truly is the centerpiece of our home. It’s about forty years old. And we bought it on Craigslist when we were remodeling our farmhouse. It’s propane and always on. It doesn’t have any knobs, so it’s always warm and cozy. We live in the mountains, and mornings are always cold. Evenings are also always cold, no matter the time of year. And we always have really long winters. So it’s an amazing gathering spot for our family. In the morning, my kids are always hanging around it. They’re scooting up their chairs to eat their oatmeal. We don’t have a microwave because you don’t need one. The Aga is always ready to go, and you don’t ever have to preheat the oven. It’s so cool. When I hand-wash things, I dry them on the Aga.

I think it was two or three years ago that it broke, and it was off for about three weeks. We realized what a sad time it was for our family. We were like,Oh my gosh, it’s not cozy anymore. It felt like something was really missing. So yeah, I love the Aga. It’s a huge part of our farmhouse and family routine.

I think toothbrushes just aren’t talked about enough. I never see people talking about toothbrushes, you know? We all have to use them three times a day. Anyway, toothbrushes are a big deal to me, and I have to make sure all my kids brush their teeth. My husband, Daniel, and I went on this little trip to London last year, and we found this Japanese store that we went into, and they had these beautiful Japanese toothbrushes. Turns out they’re amazing. They clean your teeth so well, and they don’t irritate your gums. And they’re such a unique shape, more square than the traditional rectangle. I’ve been loving them. I know my kids like them, too.

I’m quite minimal when it comes to routines. With everything going on — the business and the kids — I love tried-and-true things. I have my farm boots for when I’m going to the farm stand or tromping about — that sort of thing. But if I’m going to town or taking the kids to things, I’m just putting on my clogs. I feel like they elevate the look. I also love real materials whenever possible. I love that these are made of just wood and leather. I also think the red goes with everything. They’re comfortable and mold to my feet. The girls got some too, and now we’re twinning, so there’s no going back. We’re going to be cloggers for the rest of our lives.

We love enamelware at our house. It’s just such a good idea when you have kids, honestly. And I think Falcon’s color ways are really fun. We use the deeper plates, which are easier for kids to eat with. They’re not spilling on the counter as much. And the pieces are lightweight and easy to clean. We have and love them all.
