What Regina King (Still) Can’t Live Without

I use it even more. I found as the years go by, you need to stretch more and foam-roll more to work out the little aches and pains that come from God knows where. Sometimes just because you woke up and it’s a Tuesday. And they come so random. You’re like,I was stepping up into a van. Why did my knee just tweak like that?Weird things. So I find myself using that foam roller much more — you know, twice a day as opposed to three or four times a week. That foam roller’s my best friend. Keeps me from moving like I’m 55, you know?

Honestly, if I would have to eliminate everything on the list, this would be the one I have to keep. I could figure out how to knead a knot out of my hip, whether it’s rolling up against a doorknob or something. But floss, there’s no substitute for floss. And it’s a mandatory thing. It is super basic, but it’s surprising how many people don’t floss. And you can tell.

The discovery of the importance of the silk on your face — you pay attention to skin and all of those small things to preserve the biggest organ on your body, to keeping it looking as youthful as possible. The silk pillowcase obviously is great for your hair, but it’s also better for your face than the 600-thread-count Supima cotton whatever. I have one that’s specifically for travel. I’m not a full-on germaphobe, but I am sensitive to the idea of using things that someone else that I don’t know used before me. And I travel a lot. Those blankets and pillows aren’t brand-new each flight. So I put the pillowcase on the pillow on the plane. But at night, I still have on a silk scarf. I mean, I’m a Black woman — we are definitely going to have on our bonnets or silk scarves, regardless of the silk pillowcase.

I use it at night only. It’s super, super rich, and a little goes a long way. While the bottle is little, you’ll have it for a long time. And if you do get excess product underneath your eyes, you can use whatever’s left over to rub on your lips. I feel like it definitely works. I’ve been using it for years, years, years, years, years. And, I mean, I think I look pretty good without makeup on. So even if it’s a placebo, I’m going to attribute it some of it to Eye Dew Plus. And water.

They are defunct. If I catch them on eBay, I’ll buy them — I have two pairs on deck right now. I use them when I’m directing, because you have to have headphones on a lot. And they’re super, super comfortable. A lot of the newer headphones — even those Apple headphones — while they’re great, after I have them on for an hour and some change, they start feeling uncomfortable for me. And those Bowers & Wilkins … the earphone padding is the perfect size. It’s not so big where it feels like it’s clamping my head, and it’s not so small where it’s bothering inside my ear. They’re kind of perfect. I want to say I got them in a gift bag, when they were actually making them. And I was like,Oh my God, these are amazing. It’s also hard to find headphones with great sound that are plug-in. When I use them on the plane or something like that, I have to use an adapter. But on set, I’m able to plug it directly into the comm tech.

I have been on this nonaluminum-deodorant journey for about ten years now. It’s tough in the summers. But I’m committed to it. Part of winning the battle is changing up your deodorants. They’ll be good and working well for six months to a year, maybe, and then it’s like your body built an immunity to them, and you’ve got to switch to something else. Billie has been my latest, and it’s my latest and greatest right now. I discovered it in Soho walking down the street, and there was a billboard. I’m always game to try a new natural deodorant, and so far, so good. And I like the fragrances. My favorites are thedarker green bottleand thelighter blue one.

A dear friend of of ours, her husband, Andrew, did that collab with Salomon sneakers about a year ago. And orange is a very dear color to me. So she sent them to me, because she knows Ian and thought that they would fit well in my wardrobe and that I would like them. And she was right. But what I didn’t anticipate is that they would be so freaking comfortable! Oh my God. They were so comfortable that I immediately went online to go and buy another pair, because they also look really cool. And they were sold out, so I ended up buying two more pairs in a different colorway.

I love when something looks good and feels good. I wear them for daily use, but you can totally hike in them. I wouldn’t because I don’t want to mess them up. But the other pair that I bought, I wear those hiking. For anything that is a workout or when you’re going to be on your feet for a long time, those shoes are awesome. I have not looked up much about Salomon, but whoever Salomon is, he came up with a good shoe. At least for my body.

The inspiration behind the wine is Ian. It’s giving me the opportunity to create more new experiences with Ian, in something that you can touch, and taste, and use all your senses to experience. Becoming a winemaker — that wouldn’t have been on my bingo card seven years ago. It’s fulfilling. That idea of finding a way to continue to create memories — I don’t want to live without that.

Learning how many different blends that orange wine can be has been fascinating. You can have ten orange wines, and they can be a blend of so many different white grapes. But MianU being a Gewürztraminer and a Chardonnay — I’ve had orange wines that had neither grape. When you’re looking at something from an alchemy perspective, variety is exciting.

I would describe it as … “Refreshing” is definitely something front of mind because it is summer. I think if you were drinking MianU during the fall or winter, you might also say “cozy,” because it definitely feels like something you want to share. And sharing always gives a cozy feeling. You feel a little connection with whoever you’re sharing with. Or maybe “intimate” is the better word. It’s refreshing and intimate.
