What Hannah Waddingham Can’t Live Without

I’ve known Shane for a couple of years now, and I always say to him, if I had my holy grail of skin-care essentials, his oxygenating mask would be one of them. It’s the gangster of face masks. If you were to use it before a flight and after, you literally wouldn’t look like you’d been on a flight at all. I do six pumps. You need to get it on quickly, get it all over the face, even under your eyes. It’s so beautifully made, you can use it under your eyes, down your neck, cover your face with it and then let it do its thing for a while. It bubbles up into a foam and then you massage that into the face. Afterward, either get it off with a hot cloth or, as I do, just wash it off. Never once has my skin not looked unbelievably better after using it.

I use it where I would use a toner. I think it’s really important that people understand that your skin should be wet to receive serums. I don’t think people know that enough. His hyaluronic mist is so gorgeous because you can put it on while your face is still very wet and then apply a serum. I like Obagi vitamin-C serum for the day. And then the Bonjout solid serum at night. If you spray it on your face during the day and just kind of pat it in by itself, it has a kind of refreshing, tightening effect as well.

The blue is the cryotherapy one that a lot of people in the film industry rave about. I personally like the black ones from the Diamond range. I love the Diamond range full stop from 111Skin. It’s really fabulous. It does exactly what it says on the tin. It is a more expensive brand, particularly its exosome face-lift treatment kit, but that’s a daytime and a nighttime set of things that you’re meant to use together for several weeks. It does make a difference. Annoyingly, for the price: You just think, Oh, goddamn it, they’re actually justifying the amount.

I was sent this four months ago. Sometimes I’ll be sent things and I don’t give it much thought and just get on with it and see how it goes. Especially if I’m not on-camera, I’ll think, Oh, well, I’ll try this for now. Your skin feels smoother, brighter, pores a little bit more closed. I naturally feel like I was having to do less to my skin. I don’t usually extol the virtues of expensive things, but it’s really great. I’m always looking for things that are gonna help me out when I’ve had a long run of filming or something, and if I was going to have a bit of downtime, just to put that on every day, no makeup, you’d really see a difference.

I don’t like to have any penetrating intervention on my skin. It’s not for me. So I try to find things that can help me out. I’m obsessed with my red laser. I have that on every night, and I literally fall asleep with it on. Juno Temple and I actually discussed that we both love it because it has a serious amount of red lights. It’s not one of those annoying ones that kinda splats around your face and feels like your nose is being squashed sideways. It’s an actual hard-structure mask.

When you’re in the film industry, you’re being picked up at asshole o’clock in the morning. Five in the morning, you’re sitting in the back of the car. I will have either the blue or the black 111Skin eye patches on. Then over the top of that, I put the Therabody Depuffing Wand. You can either make it cold or make it warm to help your serums and moisturisers and oils go in. It’s a brilliant depuffing stick.

If I had to smell one thing for the rest of my life, blue cocoon is it. It’s multipurpose, like the Bonjout Solid Serum is. My makeup artist Gita Bass in New York puts this on my skin before we start my makeup for carpets. Lindstrom’s whole ethos is kindness to the skin, kindness to the environment.

This has always made a difference to me. I don’t use it all the time. I use it when I’ve just finished shooting something and we were using individuals every day. I’ve been using it lately to kind of replenish them a bit. But I wouldn’t use it all the time. You don’t need to. Its never stung my eyes. A couple of other brands have stung my eyes a bit when they kind of permeate into your eyeballs. LiLash is one of those “if it ain’t broke, why would I replace it with anything else?”

My fabulous stylist, James Yardley, introduced me to it a few months ago. I also love SkinCeuticals C. E Ferulic. They’re fairly similar, I think. Both give you an immediate glow and a lovely base to put your makeup on. By the time you wake up the next day, you can feel that there is a brightness on your skin.

Unless you’ve got horrifically dehydrated skin, which you should be addressing with water and electrolytes anyway, I think the Skin Food Light is absolutely enough for everyone, men and women. I use that just as much as any more expensive moisturiser, especially on planes. It’s great on lips. Great for the neck if you’re getting older. Great for elbows. It’s the most gorgeous scent. Every man or woman who loves skin care should have it in their back pocket.

It’s by a French pharmacist. I came across her about a year ago. I was looking for something that would be a one-and-done kind of vibe. I was traveling around so much, and I didn’t wanna take liquids on the plane. I would take sachets of Shane’s stuff and then I would take this solid serum. I’ve very much fallen in love with it. I always run my index finger around so it kind of nudges up on your finger a bit, then I warm it in my hands and press it onto my face. She’s a very small company and very simple, not scented. It has the most fabulous botanicals in it and is literally a serum, a moisturiser, an eye cream, just an all-rounder. If you made me take everything away, I’d probably choose that. Once you’ve done your double cleanse, which I can’t say enough how everyone needs to double cleanse, even if they are not wearing makeup, the environment is so screwed up we’ve gotta look after our skin. I’d always say a cleansing balm, then a wash, then mist or toner. I personally find toners too astringent. I think it makes your skin fight back, which it doesn’t need to. So something that refreshes the face, then a beautiful serum. The solid Bonjout serum after that, which is both serum and moisturiser, feels like it’s sealing the skin in without suffocating it.

It’s really satisfying working with a brand I choose to have in my cabinet myself. I’ve used the exfoliant for a few years now, and it has never ever done anything other than a great job and really quickly. Even though it’s a different kind of thing, I would say the same about the pro-collagen peptide. It’s one of those things that has become a real staple. It feels clean and light but potent. Once you hit your 50s, that’s what you want. Things that really bloody work.
