What Zosia Mamet Can’t Live Without

I like Buck Mason’s boxy tees because I’m short. So T-shirts often hit me weird and I hate having too much to tuck in. But these are always the perfect fit, and they’re made with such delicious light fabric.

I hope I don’t get in trouble. They’re a dupe of the YSL loafers that I wanted so badly, but I was like, “I don’t think I can justify spending, you know, whatever, $1,400 on these loafers.” I bought them in person at the Century City Mall. Malls sort of stress me out, but that day I had to get something very specific there and I walked by Steve Madden and I was like, “Those look a lot like the loafers I’ve been pining for.” Normally with something that’s a dupe, maybe aesthetically it’s the same, but the quality is absolutely not. So I was like, “They can’t possibly be that good.” Then I tried them on and was pretty impressed. So I bought them, and now I have them in four different colors because I’m so obsessed with them. I’m very hard on the things that I wear. I’m not super delicate with them. I think it might be the horse girl in me. And they’ve held up really well. I hope they keep the style around forever.

I always say that my eyebrows are way more like pubic hair than brow hair. They sort of have this crazy mind of their own, which is a bummer when you’re on-camera and there’s one going this way and you’re like, “That’s not the way eyebrows are supposed to go.” But I feel like the more intense brow gels often leave this weird film. I mean, I’ve literally had people put hairspray in my brows before. I guess it’s an old trick. But I’ve tried so many of them. And this is the first one that keeps my insane brows in place but doesn’t make them crusty.

I like the kind of floss sticks that look like little trees. I have teeth that I swear just call food to them or are like, “Please don’t leave us, food. Stay here.” So if I’m not home near a toothbrush or floss, if I’m out in the world or at work, I need something to help. I discovered these little floss things. The ones that I found first were the Gum brand that comes with a plastic case that you can refill. They are great. I’ve bought other ones too, and I think they’re all pretty similar. But now they are forever and always in my purse.

I love chocolate, and I love peanut butter, and I love them together so much. And Justin’s are essentially a healthy Reese’s. I will have one or two pretty much every night for dessert. I’m allergic to dairy, so the dark-chocolate ones are my friend.

This is a small horsey brand, and as a horse girl I’m always carrying so much shit. I don’t know what it is about us. We refuse to make more than one trip. It’s like a principle thing: “Absolutely not. We’ll do it all in one go.” There are videos of me or photos that barnmates of mine have taken where I have a saddle and my boots and I’m holding a horse and a dog. I’m just like, “I got it all.” I forget how I discovered this company, but they make a tote bag called the Hay Bag in a few different sizes. The largest one is supposed to be able to fit four or five saddles in it if they’re stacked correctly. And the bags are beautiful. They make really cool canvas ones, and they also make really gorgeous suede and leather ones. I use mine at the barn, but I always travel with it, and it’s always my set bag. I’ve given them to all of my friends who are moms. I’m like, “You can literally … You could throw all of your children and snacks in this bag because it’s so big.” I like the leather one the most because I’m such a sucker for leather. It always reminds me of the barn, and I think a leather bag that’s broken in is so, so beautiful.

Back in the day when you did a movie, you’d get a leather binder with your name and your character’s name or the name of the film on it. My dad had one kinda similar to this growing up, and I just loved it. You pull the front back and the spine opens up so you can very easily put in pages and take them out. I got one when I was 16 or 17, and I’ve had it since then. It was made by this company called Creative Book Binding that used to make the binders for all the movie stars from the days of yore. It’s since gone out of business, which is so sad. Similar binders do exist, but I still use my old one to learn my lines on every new project.

I think I got the citrus juicer I am currently using in the U.K., because the apartment where I was staying didn’t have one. I was like, “I must have a citrus juicer.” My parents have one that we’ve had since I can remember, the same one. And my stepmom always makes great salad dressing with lemon, and I sort of adopted that from her. I’m a huge fan of making my own salad dressing. It’s nothing crazy. I normally do lemon juice, olive oil, and Dijon mustard. But I’m pretty much doing that at some point once a day, and you gotta have a good citrus juicer. This is a nice version because it catches the juice and then you make the salad dressing in that jar at the bottom.

I am always in need of a pair of scissors, whether it be for general life or in the kitchen. And I have a pair of these in red that are the best. Flimsy scissors are just the fucking worst. You know, when you need a pair of scissors and they separate or poop out on you. I’ve had these for years and years, and they have served me very well.

Sophie Ratner’s my buddy, and we designed a collaboration together. I’m normally someone who goes for vintage jewelry. So we did a collaboration that was inspired by a piece of jewelry that was my grandmother’s. We really wanted to create — it sounds sort of cheesy — modern heirlooms. And beyond even the pieces that we made together, I really love Sophie’s designs. I feel like they’re very classic while also being unique. I never take my jewelry off. I’m, like, showering in it and riding in it. And her pieces really hold up to the wear and tear. I have a lot of holes in my ears, so I layer a lot of earrings from her collections.
