There’s nothing a runner loves more than a good race — but since you can’t exactly take the best personal record of their life and box it up with a bow on top, I’ve tried to capture some of that “runner’s high” feeling with the gifts on this list. (And as a life-long runner who competed as a Division I track-and-field and cross-country athlete for TCU and UC Berkeley, Iknowwhat makes a good gift for a runner.) The items here are ones that will delight your giftee and help them achieve all kinds of running-related goals — from staying injury free to joining a new run club — or take their training to the next level.
Over the past year, I tested a range of running gadgets, clothes, and tech — and I collected gear recommendations from other avid runners, coaches, andStrategist staffers(several of us are obsessed with running). This guide offers ideas from that research and reporting at a range of price points and levels. Just note: We didn’t include any running shoes on this list because finding the best pair of kicks will depend on the fit, feel, and giftee’s preferences. (And, of course, we’ve got aguideon how to choose the right ones, along with plenty ofother gift guidesfor all types of gifting inspiration.)

Personally, I’ve become obsessed with the twist-off top pouch because I can have some of the gel before my run and the rest immediately afterwards on my drive home from a trail.

Runners are very conscious about water intake, so I recommend this water bottle from HydroJug that I received as a gift. It might look like a Stanley, but I think HydroJug is better because it has a quiet, non-slip rubber bottom, plus the flip-straw design means it’s completely leakproof.

Over the years, I’ve struggled with low iron levels (it’s common for endurance athletes like runners because iron loss can occur from heavy sweating and the breakdown of red blood cells during intense exercise). That’s why I use this Momentous supplement trio. I take the iron supplement in the morning and the other two at nighttime: calcium, which supports bone density, plus vitamin D3 to enhance calcium absorption. I also appreciate that Momentous products are NSF-certified, which is the gold standard in independent supplement testing.

I was introduced to these electric-stimulation leg straps by my boyfriend, who’s a professional athlete. They are super portable for taking on the go and highly effective for recovery: The device triggers muscle contractions to increase blood flow and flush out lactic acid in the lower leg. I can almost guarantee that the runner in your life hasn’t tried them yet.
