With fall here — and winter not far behind — now’s the time to take stock of your outerwear before the temperature dips any further. If your coat closet is looking sparse, worthy options abound, from cozy dusters to (faux) fur bombers. To help you navigate the market, we asked 11 cool people, including style experts, photographers, and models, about their favorite plus-size coats and jackets. Ahead, their 21 recommendations, featuring luxury trenches, puffy parkas, and leather moto jackets for every budget in a range of sizes from 12 to 40.
Best $100-and-under plus-size coats and jackets
Asos has a large selection of affordable fall jackets available, like this one from U.K.-based brand Missguided. However, we suggest buying soon, since its stock tends to fluctuate quickly. Podcaster and style expert Ella Sisso told us “the combination of texture and color on this one is a dream.” Plus, she “really likes the boxy fit.” The jacket is available in sizes 12 to 20.
“I spent my entire four years of high school pining for a cool moto jacket because I just wanted to be as dope as every actor in The Outsiders — I’m looking at you, Patrick Swayze,” says creative Emma Smart. “Now that I can actually find them in my size, I have an addiction,” she adds. “This jacket makes me feel like smoking cigarettes behind a dive bar as neon lights faintly glow on the street on a rainy October evening,” she says, suggesting it’s perfect for any outdoor-dining dates you may have planned. The jacket is available up to a size 6XL.
While style blogger and editor Natalie Craig told us she usually keeps her outerwear simple and versatile, this year she’ll be “turning a new leaf with bold and brightly colored coats” like this leopard option from Eloquii. Like all of the brand’s clothes, it’s available from sizes 14 to 28.
Model and designer Sarennya Srimugayogam also pointed us toward a “stylish and fun” Eloquii jacket. “This is a statement piece which will turn heads, even if you are trying to maintain a neutral color palette,” thanks to the graphic black-and-white print and furry texture.
According to Lauren Chan, the founder and CEO of luxury plus-size brand Henning, “New York weather goes from mildly chilly to seriously cold quite quickly, so as soon as fall hits,” having a puffer on hand is essential. She likes this one from Mango, available up to an XXL, “for the length, so it’ll keep my bum warm on walks to the subway, the furless hood — it looks sleeker without a trim, in my opinion — and the cool matte-black color.”

Smart also has her eye on this “gorgeous copper trench,” available up to a size 6XL from Torrid, which she says has her “daydreaming of walking through autumnal foliage, like out of a Gilmore Girls episode, with a pumpkin-spice latte in hand” for a peak fall vibe.
Lifestyle blogger Sierra Holmes told us that if you want to take your trench a step further, this one, “with croc details that will flatter any figure,” is a good option. This double-breasted white vinyl coat has adjustable cuffs, a relaxed fit, and goes up to a size 26.
