The Best Early Black Friday Kitchen Deals

WhileBlack Fridayis still technically a few days away, the deals are already rolling in. As Strategist’s senior kitchen and dining writer, I have scoured the internet for appliances, cookware, tools, gadgets, tableware, and everything else you could possibly need to outfit the heart of the home. I’ve been doing this for quite a few years now, too, so I truly know what’s worth it. Here you’ll find only the best of the best, whether they come from sifting through the overwhelming number of discounts at bigger box stores like Williams Sonoma and Sur La Table or from pinpointing smaller retailers offering the lowest prices of the year. I’ve also kept in mind that it’sgift-giving seasonand to that end, called out quite a few items that I think would be great to buy for the food- and cooking-obsessed people in your life. I’ll be updating this post over the next several days as new sales go live and then into Black Friday itself (and Cyber Monday, too) — so watch this space.
Deals I personally think are the best
Like I said, it’sgift-giving season— and I think you’d be smart to do most of your shopping now while so many special items are on sale. Here, I’ve pulled several I think would be standout for this purpose. There’s Misen’s mini stainless-steelsaucier(get the adorable-and-still-useful 0.75-quart size). Hedley & Bennett’s chef-belovedaproncomes in over two dozen color choices, so you’re bound to find one tailored to your recipient’s taste. And this set from Material Kitchen that includes its walnut salt cellar and resting stone, which can be used as a spoon rest or shallow vessel for garnishes.
We’re starting with Amazon, which is perhaps the biggest beast of all. A lot of deals I found are just okay, so I’m calling out only the items I genuinely think are fantastic: a powerful Vitamixblenderthat’s nearly half off, a worth-ithigh-end cast-iron skillet, and our Best in Classspice grinder.
Crate & Barrel has a lot of the same brand-name cookware and appliance deals as other big retailers I’ve listed below, namely Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma. So to keep things interesting, I’ve decided to focus my search here on tableware. Last year, I worked on a bigtabletop-themed projectfor the Strategist, and in my research found that, according to many experts, Crate & Barrel has some of the best-looking, highest-quality pieces for the price — and when on sale, even more so.
Dusen Dusen isn’t strictly a kitchen brand — but it does make quite a few boldly colorful and patterned items to make your space feel especially delightful. Everything is worth perusing; though since some of the deals are on the lower end, I pulled my favorites that are at least 25 percent off.
East Fork is known for its beautiful ceramics. But the brand also has some more unexpected products, like very cute enamelware, lovely wooden bowls, and beautiful glassware. I’ve gathered some favorites across categories below, all of which are 20 percent off along with the rest of the site (barring a few exceptions).
Fellow is offering up to 25 percent off its products, including our favorite gooseneck-styleelectric kettle(which is being offered in several new colors), its fantasticcoffee-maker(my colleague Michael Zhao, who has been using it for months now, says it’s one of the best machines he’s ever tried), and a slew of insulatedtravel mugsfor taking coffee and tea on the go this winter.
This is the biggest sale of the year for Great Jones; the brand is offering up to 50 percent off of most items. Here, a few standouts, including itsbaking dish, which is one of the best I own (and comes in a smaller square that’s also on sale), as well as its smallDutch oven(perfect for soup season in a household of two), and a colorful take on glass measuring cups.
Hedley & Bennett — known for many years for itsaprons— has significantly increased its offerings over the past couple of years. For Black Friday, the brand has marked down everything on its website at least 20 percent, and certain items more so. Plus the more you buy, the deeper the discount you get. You can’t go wrong with its hero product. Thekitchen utensil setis great (especially the spoonula and stainless-steel tasting spoon), and though I haven’t personally tried thecutting board, the design is quite cool, and it’s an ideal size and thickness.
Many items at Made In are up to 30 percent off through December 7. As much as I love its stuff — especially the stainless-steel cookware — the brand generally doesn’t have the highest discounts any time of year. Here’s how I’d shop: If you’ve had your eye on something in particular for a while, now is as good a time as any to go for it. If you just want to shop around, look at its sets, which is where you’ll find the best deals. I’d say my favorite item of all is the stock pot with a pasta insert, which I have and use regularly. It’s incredibly versatile, well built, and comfortable to maneuver.
Material Kitchen’s sale is also its biggest of the entire year, with up to 35 percent off sitewide. I found some gems, like this salt cellar and spoon rest (or shallow vessel for garnishes) combo, the components of which are sold separately at a markdown, too. I also pulled a couple of blades I like: the excellent straight-edgesteak knivesand the smallserrated knife.
Misen is offering 25 percent off sitewide with code MISENSEASON. Here, I simply selected my own favorite items, including thehybrid roasting and sheet panI use all the time and thehybrid carbon-steel and nonstick skilletthat really blew my mind during testing. I tapped some colleagues who I know love the brand, too, and they offered their own recommendations of standout pieces.
Like I said, Sur La Table has a lot of the same deals as Crate & Barrel and Williams Sonoma — so I focused my search on less-expected gems that will help you with kitchen prep work. Everything I’ve pulled is at least 35 percent off. That Teakhauscutting boardis approved by my mom (a great home cook), who says it’s substantial but stillmuchlighter weight than a Boos block. I highly recommend getting your hands on a set of all-purpose nesting bowls, like these from Duralex. And perhaps best of all, I found a gorgeous Shunchef’s knifefor under $200.
So far, the real stars of the show at Williams Sonoma are the pieces of industry-standard brand-name cookware. Our very favorite seven-quart StaubDutch oven(in select colors) will only run you $300 (this is a big one, good for families of four and up as well as entertaining). There’s a bunch of Le Creuset and All-Clad on sale, too.Andthe markdowns on otherwise-very-expensive, tried-and-true appliances are impressive, especially Breville’s do-it-alltoaster oven, the classic KitchenAidstand mixer, and Cuisinart’s time-testedfood processor. Everything listed here is 25 percent off or more.
