Here’s a less expensive set, recommended by professional organizer Ann Lightfoot, the co-founder ofDone and Done Home. She likes them specifically for bathrooms, but they have the same qualities that make the iDesign Linus bin a good fits-anywhere bin — modularity, sturdy clear plastic, and a good range of sizes. One downside: They only come in one depth of two inches, the same as the shallow Linus bins.

Many organizing experts love the Container Store’s bamboo stacking trays, which are ideal for silverware and kitchen utensils. (They’re also a favorite of Strategist writer Ambar Pardilla, the author of a previous version of this article.) If you’re organizing a wooden drawer, these offer a more streamlined look than the Linus bins — “they might even be mistaken for built-ins,” Pardilla says. Although they only come in one depth (two inches, like the Vtopmart organizers above), they’re also stackable, so you can create a tiered system in deeper drawers. Just make sure not to entirely cover any box, which is a surefire way to lose track of what’s inside.

Here’s a set of reasonably priced plastic organizers recommended by Lisa Ruff, chief brand officer atNeat Method, which are especially useful for bathroom items. They’re two inches high and can stack in taller drawers. Unlike the bamboo boxes above, their clear plastic construction makes it easy to keep track of items on the bottom level.

My first choice for flatware organizers would be the Container Store bamboo bins above, which have a nice warm tone and are modular enough to fit most drawers. But their stackable construction means they have relatively thick sides, which might not be ideal if you’re short on space. For very small spaces, this Joseph Joseph tray comes recommended by former Strategist staffer Hannah Starke, who optimized every square inch of her22-square-foot kitchen. Because of its longer design, it can store enough silverware for six to eight place settings in a narrow four-inch-wide footprint.

This heavy-duty steel in-drawer spice rack can hold between 24 and 32 standard-size spice jars, depending on the size. The brand recommends using these in a drawer that’s at least three inches deep, to make sure you have enough space to easily remove and replace spice jars. It’ll almost disappear into the background, making finding the spice you need much easier since you’re seeing more of the spices than the tray itself. The rack also comes in an expandable version to fit drawers up to 26 inches wide.

Per Solomon, dividers can sometimes be a better bet than trays: Unlike a tray that has fixed dimensions, a spring-loaded divider can work in a variety of different drawer sizes, which is ideal if you’re a renter or want something versatile and low-commitment while you’re still figuring out your organizational setup. You can install them from front to back or side to side, with each expanding from 17 inches to 22 inches. They come in a set of four, which works out to less than $10 per divider, and each one is outfitted with foam ends so as not to scuff the inside walls of your cabinetry. They come in three finishes — white, natural, and gray — and they’re water-resistant, so they’re easy to wipe down with a damp cloth.

Madesmart makes no-muss, no-fuss organizers, and their “junk drawer” organizer is a classic. Ikea Skubb boxes cost a fraction of the Container Store’s linen ones, at $7 for a six-pack. They are slightly less structured and thus more prone to flopping over when half-full, and the polyester fabric doesn’t feel as luxe as the Container Store’s poly-linen blend. Still, they’re impressively modular — they’re designed for small boxes to nest inside larger ones, and a zipper at the base allows them to be folded flat and stowed away if your organizational needs change.
