Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ‘em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve rounded up the best pop-culture costumes, the best couple’s costumes, and the best dog costumes already, here we’ve chosen the best costumes for kids on Amazon — according to the people. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

Best Girls’ Costumes

JerrisApparel Cinderella Dress
$23 at Amazon

“This dress is truly amazing!! My 4 year old is in LOVE with this gown! Amazing quality, just really amazing! Kudos to the maker of this dress it is spot on! Love love love this dress! I will be purchasing more from this company. Please continue making little girls feel like princesses! Thank you!!”

Super DC Heroes Wonder Woman Child’s Costume
From $20 at Amazon

“I was absolutely satisfied by this purchase. My daughter is obsessed with all things Wonder Woman and she has worn this costume at least 50 times already! The only problem I have come across is the Velcro not sticking any longer, but as I said, she has gotten A LOT of use out of it!”

Fun World Girls Zombie Costume
From $22 at Amazon

“This was a great costume. My 7 year old really liked the ‘guts’ part. It was well made too and was more ‘authentic’ than most kids costumes.”

ReliBeauty Mermaid Costume
$20 at Amazon

“My 3 year old is petite at 31 lbs and 38.5 inches tall. She normally wears a 3t and sometimes a 4t. This fits her very well. The bottom of the dress touches the ground just barely. She loves it and can’t wait until Halloween. The only thing I wasn’t completely happy with is the sleeves are half sleeves. I thought they would be full sleeves. That’s the only downside.”

Franklin Sports NFL Deluxe Youth Uniform Set
From $50 at Amazon

“This is such a great deal for the price!! My son needed this for a Halloween costume and this arrived on time and fits true to size. The numbers are iron on, so your child gets to pick what number they want on the jersey. The iron on numbers required more heat than what I thought, so have a bit of patience when ironing those on. I was worried about the helmet size since my son has a bigger head, but it fit great!”

Born Toys 8 PC Premium Washable Fireman Costume and Accessories
$26 at Amazon

“Wow! This is such an incredible product!! My three year old son has had multiple fireman costumes in the past from Melissa and Doug and other such companies. This product is beyond superior in every way! From the details on the jacket, the helmet visor that really lifts up and down, the fire hydrant that actually shoots out real water…. my son was ecstatic! We will definitely be ordering this product many times over again for friends and family as gifts.”

Disney’s Frozen Elsa Deluxe Girl’s Costume
From $9 at Amazon

“I don’t know what I was doing before Frozen came into our lives. My god, there was no Elsa or Anna to think about, sing with, or dance to. Then this showed up, sparkles and all; I don’t think we saw another piece of clothing on her from the time this showed up until her next birthday. So much blue. I mean who likes blue that much? ‘It’s not blue daddy; it’s ‘Ice Blue.’ And I stand corrected as usual. If you want your child to wear clothes and possibly bathe, stay away, if not, the perfect ‘Elsa’s sister that isn’t Anna’ dress awaits.”

Disguise Girls Fairytale Toddler Witch Costume
From $17 at Amazon

“I bought this costume for my 5-year-old daughter who requested to be a ‘pretty witch.’ When it arrived in the mail, she was thrilled when she opened it. The overall design of the dress is perfect! I love how the sleeves and bottom of the dress appear tattered. The apron is a supercute addition and makes the dress even cuter! She wore black, glittery tights with it and black patent-leather shoes with velvet bows on them, which completed the costume perfectly. She wore a puffy slip underneath to give the dress more of a ‘fairy tale’ appearance. It was roomy enough that she was able to wear a long-sleeved black shirt underneath and still be comfortable. My daughter LOVED this dress and was smiling ear to ear at all the compliments she received. My beautiful little witch has been dressing up in her costume just about every day since she wore it on Halloween! Very affordable and extremely satisfied with the purchase of this adorable witch costume!”

Rubie’s Peacock Costume
$17 at Amazon

“Pretty decent quality for a Halloween costume. Sometimes when you order costumes online, they don’t even make it through the night. It’s very pretty; my daughter loved it, and she even won a costume contest with it.”

Best Boys’ Costumes

Kangaroo’s Deluxe Boys Police Costume
From $20 at Amazon

“Bought this for my 3 year old grandson and it is better than expected. Big hit with him! We gave it to him and he insisted on wearing it to bed! The quality is far better than I could imagine for a child’s costume and for the price. I purchased a 4t even though he wears a 3T so he can grow into and get much playtime with. Comes with accessories (belt, holster, radio and whistle attached to uniform). The only thing I wish it had were toy handcuffs, but will look around for those.”

Aeromax Jr. Astronaut Suit
From $35 at Amazon

“My 7 year old has been obsessed with outer space since the premier of a space themed show on PBS so of course when Halloween came around he HAD to be an astronaut. I was a little apprehensive about the price for this particular costume since Halloween costumes aren’t usually of the best quality, but the kiddo wanted it so I bit the bullet and bought it. I was shocked when I got this in the mail though! The quality is AMAZING and he has been wearing it for dress up play almost everyday. The suit is a sturdy windbreaker type material, the color is vibrant, and the patches are good quality and look authentic. I got him the 6-8 size as he is slim and typically wears a size 6/7 pants. It fits him perfectly, but you may want to size up if your child is on the taller side. I’m so glad I bought this costume. I highly recommend it for any space loving kiddos!”

Batman Dark Knight Rises Child’s Deluxe Muscle Chest Costume with Mask/Headpiece and Cape
From $22 at Amazon

“When my five year old wanted to be Batman (we’re a DC household) I was happy to oblige. My only goal was to find a costume that wasn’t too expensive and cheap looking because let’s face it: all Halloween costume are overpriced for the quality they are made. So this Dark Knight Rises costume actually worked somewhat. It’s very thin, so you will need to wear clothes underneath. My son is always in the 90% for height, but usually I don’t have to actually go a size up for costumes, it would have been beneficial if I had. However, the $27-28 that I spent were worth it to me since my son had a blast and got to be Batman a couple times.”

Deadpool Riekinc Unisex Lycra Spandex Halloween Costume Kids
$40 at Amazon

“The costume is perfect! My son absolutely LOVES it. It fit perfectly. He’s 10, 53 inches tall and weighs 70 lbs. I got a large and it worked out great.”

California Costumes Howling at The Moon
From $22 at Amazon

“My son loved this costume. It fit him perfectly. The mask was formed weird when we got it, but we just a warm blow dryer on it to get rid of some of the wrinkles. You only get the mask and top (we knew that) so we used an old pair of jeans that were too short, cut them, and bought some faux fur from the fabric store and hot glued it into the inside. I knew going into it (and warned my son) that breathing into the mask all night would get kinda gross in there (wet!) but he was a trooper! All in all, I am happy that we will probably be able to use the mask long after he outgrows the shirt, and we can always make a new shirt to go with it!”

Rubie’s Harry Potter Costume
From $22 at Amazon

“My daughter is 10 years old and 54 inches tall. I got her the kids large and it fits great. It’s also a nicer quality than some of the nylon looking ones I’ve seen. Think of those Snuggie Blankets…it’s pretty much that material. Not nearly the quality of the robes from the official store, but a good deal that doesn’t cost $100+ And it will be warm for our freezing Halloween.”

Super Mario Brothers Mario Costume
From $26 at Amazon

“My 3-year-old son loves this costume! I bought size small, and it fits him great with a little bit of room to grow into. He went to preschool wearing the hat today, and he was so proud of himself. He was so happy with this costume. Originally intended to use for Halloween, but it seems like he is going to wear it almost every day. Nicely made! Thank you so much for this wonderful product. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my son happy. This is the best costume I’ve ever purchased. Will highly recommend to anyone interested in Mario.”

Construction Worker Role Play Costume
From $21 at Amazon

“The 3-year-old I gifted this to was over the moon about this outfit, and he wore it almost every day for several weeks after receiving it — he wanted to wear it to bed over his pajamas! — instead, he was allowed to put it on when he first got up in the morning. He is crazy about playing with construction vehicles, tractors, etc., and names them and so on. So, he was really pleased to get to wear the outfit that goes along with all of his pretending. It has held up very well considering he is a very active boy, so I would definitely recommend this product on that note as well.”

Fun World Morris Costumes Grim Reaper Costume
From $17 at Amazon

“I’m so happy to have a costume my son is excited about. I wasn’t exactly thrilled that he wanted to be some sort of zombie; all I thought about was having to paint his face, and even worse, take the face paint off at the end of a long night of trick-or-treating. But when he saw this costume and wanted it, I was thrilled! The costume is great and comes with the gloves and belt, and hood and glasses that light up. I do wish it came with the scythe weapon shown in the image, that would have been convenient, but either way, this is a good costume!”

Monster Morphsuits Costume
$40 at Amazon

“My son is 9 years old and wears a size 10 in most clothing. I ordered a large (10-12), and it fits perfectly. He looks great in it! The only issue I see with the suit is that the quality isn’t great. This costume may not be able to handle that much wear. Overall, I’d recommend this suit to others. Just be careful taking it on and off. My son loves it and thinks it’s perfect so that’s what counts.”

Best Toddler Costumes

Curious George Costume
$25 at Amazon

“My son was super cute in this Curious George costume. He wears a 3T and I purchased the toddler size which fit perfectly. In fact, he wore shorts and a shirt under the costume and still had plenty of room. The material is soft because it is made of 100% polyester. He only wore it for Halloween so I’m not sure how well it would hold up if using for dress-up. We live in Texas so this costume was very hot and would be perfect for colder climates. I was extremely grateful that the hat with the face was not a mask and was removable. My son would not have liked the mask being two years old. The feet of the costume has elastic bands that stretched over my son’s tennis shoes. The back velcros which helps with moving toddlers while dressing them. There is elastic around the wrists which I thought was a little too tight but not enough to be uncomfortable. We were very pleased with this purchase.”

Dressy Daisy Minnie Mouse Halloween Costume w/Headband
$16 at Amazon

“This outfit is absolutely adorable. It fit my daughter perfectly well. It is well made with good fabric. The headpiece is adorable but my daughter doesn’t like wearing much on her head, so, we improvised. Loved it.”

Fun World Cuddly Lion Toddler Costume
$17 at Amazon

“Adorable kids costume. My daughter loves lions and has been asking to be a lion for Halloween since last Halloween. There aren’t very many options for toddler sizes and this looked to be the cutest. For the price, you can’t ask for more. I really like that the head piece is secured with snaps and came be removed if the child becomes uncomfortable. Also, the mittens are attached on an elastic string, very well thought out design for a toddler costume. The sizing is about as accurate as you can get for a 3T-4T. It’s a bit large for my daughter who is transitioning to 3T, but I can fix that with safety pins. And it fits snugly for my son who is just going to size 5. It is probably best suited for a 4T. All in all, I’m happy that I purchased this.”

Tinkerbell Costume for Toddler
$20 at Amazon

“Love this little set! The tutu definitely runs small, so I’m glad I purchased larger. My daughter is 1.5, and is just getting in to a size 2T. I bought her the Medium size and it was perfect. The wings were adorable and she loved her wand. Totally would buy it again.”

Rubie’s Toddler PAW Patrol Marshall Child Costume
From $19 at Amazon

“Great costume for my son! He is 37” tall and weighs about 28lbs. I got the toddler size and it fit him perfectly. He tried it on and didn’t take it off for about 2 hours! He was even making us call him Marshall the whole time he had it on! I am very happy with the quality of the costume. Overall this was a great buy!”

Catboy Classic Toddler PJ Masks Costume
From $20 at Amazon

“My son loves this costume! He is 4 years old and weighs 42lbs. I got him the 4/6T because of his chest size is about a 5T. The costume was a little long for him because he is the height of an average 4T boy. To resolve the issue, I just rolled the pant legs up. I bought this for him for Halloween and he is still running around the house with it in December. Glad I bought it!”

Owlette Classic Toddler PJ Masks Costume
From $18 at Amazon

“Really good quality costumes and will be warm for my little ones on a cold Halloween night! They screamed and cried to keep them on when I was trying them on!! Lots of room to grow.”

Silly Safari Triceratops Costume
From $45 at Amazon

“I bought this for my 2 year old son. He currently wears a size 2T and the size Toddler fits him PERFECTLY. I would say that it JUST fits to a T. So if your child is at 3T or close, I would move up to a small. Let me get to it though, this costume is ADORABLE. I literally have no complaints. I am 28 years old and this is probably the best 40 bucks I’ve spent on a costume for anyone, ever. The hat first perfectly, doesn’t wobble or fold. The costume isn’t dinky or cheap looking like some of the costumes you see. It really is a quality costume, and I was so relieved and excited when I put it on my son. This time it did. My son is special needs and I was nervous about the hat aspect of the costume, but he loved it, and its secure so it didn’t bother him.”

Fun World Train Engineer Toddler Costume
From $11 at Amazon

“This was a great costume! My 22 month old son wore it four times and was able to run, play and trick or treat in it. We received compliments on the costume everywhere we went. I loved the old fashioned look which I prefer to the newer costumes that look cheap and plastic. The overalls are very thin so on cold days my son wore pants underneath and we had no problem with fit. The Velcro on the straps held every time. The hat seemed to be made for a much older child’s head because it was very large. We just pulled it back further on his head so he could see. The materials are cheap but still held up in the wash. With luck I will have another little one to wear it. We really love this costume.”

California Costumes Precious Lil’ Pirate Toddler Costume
From $14 at Amazon

“I love the simplicity of this costume. The size fits exactly as I would expect. My daughter is 30lbs and 38inches. We went with the 3/4 size and it fits her perfectly. There is a bit of room under the dress to add a long sleeve if it is too cold to wear on its own. The tights are really cute as well and seem like they will hold up long after the Halloween season is over.”

California Costumes Fire Breathing Dragon
From $39 at Amazon

“When my 4-year-old declared he wanted to (very specifically) be a ‘happy red dragon’ for Halloween, I cringed at the thought of trying to find such a costume. But THIS went beyond my expectations! Really nice quality, from head to toe! Thicker fabric than your typical paper-thin, cheapo costume, quality head piece with the perfect amount of puff and fluff inside to hold its shape, same for the tail! And nice-size Velcro closures on the back, so you don’t get those usual big open gaps in the back of the costume, complete with wired and removable bendable wings. I may pin the wings on for trick-or-treating, or add some more Velcro to what’s already there to ensure they don’t fall off. I ordered the MEDIUM (size three to four) for my petite 4-year-old, and it fits perfectly, with plenty of sleeve and pant length to allow him to get good use out of it well beyond Halloween, but not so much extra length that it’s a nuisance. And there’s also plenty of room to bundle up underneath if it’s chilly outside. This is a GREAT costume, and ridiculously cute!! My little guy is absolutely thrilled with it! Highly recommend!”
