Prime Dayis here yet again — and as ever, so am I, to help you sift through the many, many deals. My area of expertise is the kitchen, so for the next two days I’ll be focused on rounding up all the cookware, small appliances, and tools that are worth buying. (Meanwhile, my colleagues are coveringtech,beauty,fashion, and more.)
Events like this are great for grabbing any long-sought-after big-ticket items as well as for stocking up on essentials. This time of year you’d also be wise to do some early holiday shopping. But going through the pages and pages of markdowns can be overwhelming, and it’s not always clear what deals are actually good. That’s where I come in. Through years of testing and talking to pros, I know which products are worthwhile from the get-go. I’ve found the discounted gems, scrolling and price-comparing as I go to make sure each item here is truly a steal.
I’ve included some of the top picks from myBest in Classreviews, like a couple of reliablecoffee makersandblenders(both an ultrapowerful Vitamix and our very favoritepersonal blender). I dug deep into our archives to find the items that professional chefs and avid home cooks have recommended to me over the years and added some tried-and-true reader favorites. In every case, I made sure the sale was truly worthwhile, which means the vast majority of items I’ve pulled are more than 20 percent off, sometimes much more — and when less than that, there’s a compelling reason I’ve included it. The discounts on small appliances are looking especially strong this Prime Day. Here, I’ve pulled three favorites — all of which come highly recommended by multiple experts I’ve talked to over the years, and all of which I’ve used myself in my own kitchen. If you don’t bake enough to warrant splurging on the full-size model, KitchenAid’s hand mixer will still get you far. It’s quite powerful — maybe not powerful enough for bread doughs, but it should take care of all cakes and cookies perfectly well. Plus, it’s much easier to store and clean.

But I’m most excited about the fantastic steamtoaster oven, which makes golden toast, but is especially supreme at reheating leftovers and day-old pastries. This is a “lightning deal,” meaning it’ll disappear once a certain number of people have bought it, so I’m keeping a close eye (and if you’re interested, get it while you can).

Just like the stand mixer above is pretty much the only one worth buying, same goes for Cuisinart’sfood processor. Many of the pro cooks I’ve spoken to have owned theirs for literal decades — incredibly impressive for a small machine.

If you don’t need a full-size processor, this is a compact but powerful alternative. It’s a bittoosmall to make doughs, but other than that, it can handle pretty much anything the larger Cuisinart can: chopping vegetables, emulsifying sauces and dips and pestos, blitzing nuts, and more.

This is a smaller version of our very favoriterice cooker(but for the record, it still makes a lot of rice). It has the same “fuzzy logic” as its larger counterpart — a built-in microcomputer that can sense how your rice is cooking and adjust the time and temperature to get a perfect result every time. I don’t totally understand the mechanics, but itworks.

It’s classic, simple, and runs on variable control so you can really dial how fast you want the blades to turn. Overall it has fewer bells and whistles (a positive thing in my book) but is no less powerful for it.

If you plan to host at all during the holidays, consider Caraway’s roasting pan, on sale for 20 percent off. It can hold big cuts of meat and whole chickens, and if you take the rack out, it becomes a vessel for cooking lots of vegetables at a time. The ceramic stainless steel interior also makes it a breeze to clean up.

Misen’s version of a roasting pan is also on sale — though really, it’s more of a cross between the traditional style above and a standardsheet pan. It’s not as bulky as the traditional version, but it still has high sides that hold a lot of food and catch drippings and juices. I love the handles, too, which make for extra-easy maneuvering.

This is an item I fully acknowledge isn’t an amazing discount in terms of percentage off. But if you happen to be in the market for astainless-steel skilletand want one sooner rather than later, I strongly recommend this one (technically a sauté pan). It’s well built, making it extremely even-heating, and has great design details, like a tight-fitting lid, nice inside slope, and comfortable-to-grip handles.
