The Best Food-Storage Containers on Amazon, According to Hyperenthusiastic Reviewers

By

Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ‘em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written about enamel bowls that keep fruit fresh for longer and sleek bento boxes for school and work lunches, we’ve gone deep here on the best food-storage containers on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

Best overall food-storage container

4.6 stars, 10,506 reviews

“I love all the different sizes, as I can always find the right container to fit my leftovers, and they also fit in the fridge well. They seem to be good quality, as they can run through a normal dishwasher without warping and don’t melt in the microwave.”

Best packable lunch-storage container

4.3 stars, 1,403 reviews

“These are just too cute! I love that they are BPA-free, and dishwasher- and microwave-safe. I’ve been using them for my work lunches for a couple of months. I love the ice pack that comes with it. Everything stacks so nicely! I use the larger container for either a sandwich, a wrap (cut in half), a salad, or leftovers. It’s just the right size. The larger container is usually for fruit, and the two smaller ones are for carrots, or cherry tomatoes and hummus dip, or peanut butter. The only thing I need to add to my lunch box is a lock and lock container for my salad dressing, as these are not leakproof. If I take soup, or anything liquidy, I will use a different container.”

Best storage container for fruit and produce

4.4 stars, 1,330 reviews

“I wish I would have gotten these sooner. I am a vegetarian, so I eat a lot of produce, and recently my husband has started eating healthier as well, so we eat even more. I bought strawberries for my children, and then I forgot about them. I found them in the back of the refrigerator almost TWO WEEKS later, and they were still good. It keeps blackberries for a really long time. The lettuce (washed and cut up, even) has lasted close to three weeks. The real miracle is how long it keeps zucchini. Zucchini starts to get mushy in the crisper drawer after just a few days. Again, these miracle containers have kept it fresh for close to two weeks now. I’ve kept cut lettuce, cut cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumbers, zucchini, sliced bell peppers, strawberries, blackberries, cut jícama, and carrots in these containers. I’ve had fantastic results with all of them. I loved these so much, I ordered this second set on Amazon. If I had more room in my fridge, I’d get more.”

Best glass bento-box container

4.4 stars, 159 reviews

“I love these containers; they don’t leak. I have used it in the oven, freezer, and microwave. Great to bring to work because I just rinse it out at work and then throw it in the dishwasher when I get home. They are stackable, but they don’t completely nest into each other, so they take up more space than my plastic containers did, but I feel like that’s a small price to pay, given that they are better in every other way. I like the fact that they have two compartments and the food doesn’t mix. The only thing is, I don’t keep the plastic lids on in the microwave or put them in the dishwasher, I am sure they would be fine, but I just didn’t want to take the chance of messing it up.”

Best heavy-duty food-storage container that just won’t stain

4.6 stars, 587 reviews

“Good, strong Tupperware. Looks really clean and clear, and mine have not stained. I have stored spaghetti in them and other random foods, tossed them in the dishwasher, and I haven’t noticed any stains or discoloration. Been using them for about four to five months now. I may get another set because I actually really like these a lot.”

Best stacking food-storage container

4.6 stars, 1,129 reviews

“These are great! Even more so because they stack inside each other, like Russian nesting dolls. It’s great for space-saving, which was a major issue we had with our old Tupperware. It made for a pleasant surprise! My only ‘complaint’ is, I wish they were a tad bigger in their overall size, but that is a minor issue. If anything, this aspect makes me have to focus on how much I am cooking and helps keeps leftovers reasonably portioned.”

Best collapsible food-storage container

4.1 stars, 148 reviews

“We bought these for our RV. I love them! True space savers, yet durable. Lids snap tight with no leaking. Perfect for RVs and coolers. They give just enough in the cooler that it works well with ice (and beer). Need to buy another set!”

Best food-storage container for organizing your pantry and countertops

4.4 stars, 333 reviews

“Love this set! It’s pretty enough to set on my countertops, and keeps my frequently used food items close at hand. The ULTIMATE test: After finding no products out there to keep my brown sugar from clumping and hardening, I put it in one of the medium containers. It is soft and fresh! I highly recommend these canisters. They’re pretty, practical, and they WORK! A-plus.”

Best set of food-storage bowls

4.6 stars, 182 reviews

“I love Tupperware’s Wonderlier Bowls. They are the perfect size for medium-size batches of potato salad or coleslaw, tossed salad, fruit salad, or any side dish requiring refrigeration. I love the liquid-tight seal of the lids, too. If they tip over in the ice chest during transport, nothing seeps out. The colors are great too!”

Best food-storage container like the ones used at Chinese restaurants

4.3 stars, 4,651 reviews

“The container size is very similar to the version you receive when ordering Chinese food. Also like those, there are no areas to separate your food, so be aware of that prior to purchasing. Otherwise, no leaks, solid seal on lid, universal lids, and containers are all the same size, which is excellent for food preppers. I highly recommend these for anyone who wishes to own microwavable, BPA-free, and dishwasher-safe food-storage containers.”

Best soup-storage container

4.7 stars, 1,186 reviews

“These are perfect for soup; they do not leak even a little. I’m not sure how long they will last, but there are a lot of them, and they have held up even when I microwave them. I didn’t think they would, but I don’t microwave for more than a couple of minutes. The lid isn’t that difficult to remove. You just can’t expect to pull it straight off, you need to pull up all around the lid. It’s worth it because it really, really does not leak. I have frozen soup in these as well, no problems.”
