Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ‘em) products and single out the most convincing. Here, the best bodywashes on Amazon — we’ve also picked out our favorite shampoos and bath robes — according to the people. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

Best bodywash overall for men and women

4.6 stars, 3,673 reviews

“My boyfriend and I LOVE this bodywash! It’s very economical. It is thick and ultrahydrating, and leaves our skin more moisturized than any other bodywash we’ve tried yet. It also has a very neutral, clean scent, perfect for men and women to share. Excellent product.”

Best bodywash for teenage boys

4.5 stars, 728 reviews

“I was always a bar-of-soap kind of guy. Then my brother told me to try a shower gel, and I decided to use Axe’s Dark Temptation. Love the smell, and I love the compliments. I feel cleaner.”

Best bodywash for men

4.5 stars, 2,114 reviews

“I bought this because one of my two teenage sons was stealing my bodywash regularly, but it’s had an additional benefit I didn’t anticipate. Both of my sons use it, and now neither of them smells like a teenage boy! Instead, even after a day of playing soccer and riding bikes for miles in the Texas heat, they smell like humans — maybe a little sweaty, but within acceptable amounts. Now, I can even go into their bedrooms without being concerned that I might faint from the overwhelming scent of locker room. Also, one of my sons has eczema, and this is the first deodorizing soap he’s ever been able to use without making it worse. His eczema is actually better from using this because it sort of forces him to moisturize, which, apparently, isn’t a manly thing to do unless it comes in a gray-and-blue bottle that says ‘men.’”

Best fruity bodywash

4.4 stars, 953 reviews

“As a bodywash, it seems pretty standard. I do, however, have low vigor, and I was looking for a shower scent that could motivate me and create an energetic experience for me in the shower (sounds cheesy, oh, well). The scent is not as charged and spicy as the Orange Ginger I was comparing it to from Bath & Body works, which is sadly unaffordable at outrageous Bath & Body Works prices. However, it is a nice combination of tangy, punchy, and flower-honey sweet. I think it will do nicely.”

Best bodywash for pregnant women

4.5 stars, 761 reviews

“Love this! I use it every time I take a shower, and the smell is sooo refreshing. Feels great on my skin, and since I am pregnant, it doesn’t dry out my skin like other soaps do.”

Best bodywash for dry skin

4.8 stars, 810 reviews

“I love this stuff. I don’t think I’ll buy another soap ever again. The product lathers very nicely, and a little bit goes a long way. Most importantly, it doesn’t stain my tub! It leaves my skin feeling hydrated and smooth, which is telling for someone with dry African skin. Will continue to buy this product for as long as it is produced.”

Best bodywash for irritated skin

4.4 stars, 1,836 reviews

“This is a wonderful soap. It helps greatly with irritated skin areas and makes me feel really clean after I use it. Great for areas that are affected by skin-on-skin contact, such as thighs or under the breasts or armpits. I found the mint to not be overpowering at all, and as a plus, it leaves me feeling refreshed after each use.”

Best natural and sulfate-free bodywash

4.7 stars, 3,142 reviews

“In the last few months, my body seems to have decided it doesn’t like commercial-made products. I have had to switch to organic skin-care products for my face, as well as organic makeup, and have been very pleased with the results. In keeping with this process, I’ve been trying to find a bodywash that wouldn’t leave me itchy like the commercial bodywashes I tried, and I’ve tried a lot. I had looked at Puracy before, but didn’t think a combination of citrus and sea salt would work for my dry, sensitive skin, but I kept coming back to look at it again, so I finally decided, Why not try? It was the best decision I’ve ever made. From the very first time I used it, there was no itchiness and no need to use lotion after I dried off.”

Best bodywash for kids

4.5 stars, 457 reviews

“This is a great bath soap for the kids. I got one to try out and we loved it so much, I get it for both of my kids now. It smells great and is not too overpowering. The pump is also easy for the kids to use and can be used on hair and body. This doesn’t dry out their skin or sting their eyes. We love the large size, so we don’t run out too often.”

Best jelly bodywash for kids

5 stars, 32 reviews

“What a fun product! I bought it for my 6-year-old and 4-year-old, and they both loved it. It was a great way to get them clean while still having fun. Will definitely be buying these again. Also, the smell is fantastic.”

Best minty bodywash

4.3 stars, 983 reviews

“The scent is eye-opening in the best possible way — and the peppermint and rosemary are an excellent combination, with the mint and pine fragrances blending well together. The soap is somewhat thin, but it bursts into lather when a small amount is applied to a bath poof. The soap cleans well, rinses off easily, and does not leave skin feeling dry. Other than being careful when pouring the thin liquid out, so as not to waste any product, I have nothing bad to say and will definitely buy again.”

Best gallon of bodywash

4.2 stars, 189 reviews

“Cleans great, smells good. This is a much less expensive alternative to keeping liquid-soap containers in my shower and on my sinks. I purchased a refillable container. The gallon lasted me for several months, and there are three of us living at home. Scent is not too strong, so okay for men and women. Washes great, don’t have to use a lot of product.”
